In a state of panic, UK company travellers searched for alternative flight carriers to be met with limited availability and high costs.

The second domino was the when Eurostar trains got stuck in the Channel tunnel due to snow in Northern France. Between the 19th and the 24th of December a huge number of services had been cancelled, and those that had been not, frequently had delays.  Once once more this resulted in the enterprise traveller frantically arranging alternative routes to mainland Europe in the hope of acquiring to that last meeting before Christmas.

Road travel was also considerably worse as the treacherous conditions got the much better of numerous drivers.
